Tony Jillian Compton Byron has certainly changed from when I knew it in early 90’s to the last time we stayed in Ewingsdale 5yrs ago. Backpackers are everywhere and some employed mostly in hospitality. Our experience was they really don’t care about service. It is a passing job. I can see the similarities between the two towns. Thankfully we don’t have the attraction to the large population of backpackers.

Tony’s point about backpackers employed in hospitality reminds me of a comment from someone when I lived in Byron.
He said his son wanted to make a career in hospitality, however on looking for a position in the industry in town his son was told only seasonal work becomes available.
It ironic that his son was going to have to leave a town reliant on tourism for its economic wellbeing to make a career in hospitality.
